When Frank G. joined as Director of IT in 2022, he inherited a cluttered IT footprint—a result of years of acquisitions and siloed tool adoption.

“The way we were using Active Directory was just a disaster,” Frank explains. The team successfully moved all LDAP-reliant applications away from AD and onto JumpCloud, making the initial projects “very, very successful.”
“Now, we’ve severed the bond between JumpCloud and Active Directory, and we are 100% on JumpCloud now,” Frank confirms.
JumpCloud Replaces Jamf for Unified MDM
With an IT environment that is roughly 75% Macs, 23% Windows, and 2% Linux, the previous Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution, Jamf, was insufficient.
“Jamf didn’t solve all my problems anyway because 25% of my fleet is non-macOS; Jamf is great for macOS, but it doesn’t help me with my Windows or Linux machines. JumpCloud gives me mobile device management for the entirety of my fleet and also lets me connect my legacy apps via LDAP, so it’s a really nice solution. It’s really elegant.”

“It works the way we want it to, and we don’t have to beat either product too badly to make it work,” Frank says. With the environment being 98% SaaS, JumpCloud’s SSO tool, connected via SAML, has been a game-changer for simplicity.
Increased Security with Advanced Policy Enforcement
Frank’s team leverages JumpCloud for critical security controls:
- JumpCloud Commands (both custom-built and from the library) are used to install, update, and remove security-related software.
- Device Posture Policies enforce standards like disk encryption and idle timeouts.
- Conditional Access Policies prevent unauthorized data downloads and prohibit users from screenshotting data in sensitive applications.
- Patch Management keeps operating systems, browsers, and other software up to date.
- Password Manager is used to securely store and manage passwords.
Streamlined Operations: Zero-Touch Deployments
The team is successfully utilizing JumpCloud for zero-touch deployment of Mac machines.
“It’s beautiful, it’s perfect — I can ship a new user a Mac from any of our distributors, and off it goes,” Frank says, adding that implementing zero-touch for Windows machines is next on the roadmap.
Looking ahead, Frank’s team is exploring dynamic groups and waiting to test JumpCloud Go to further enhance authentication.
