The Starting Point: Building Foundational IT Infrastructure
When Joseph Cunningham joined OOONO in 2023 as the company’s first Head of IT, the startup’s existing infrastructure was fragmented and disjointed. Cunningham had the rare opportunity to build the entire IT infrastructure from the ground up.

His first priority was finding a single mobile device management (MDM) solution that could secure and manage their mixed Mac (60%) and Windows (40%) environment, all while avoiding the cost and complexity of purchasing multiple point products.
The Solution: JumpCloud as the "Swiss Army Knife"
After evaluating multiple solutions like Kandji, Hexnode, Intune, and Rippling, Cunningham selected JumpCloud because it was the only product that offered secure, frictionless device and identity management in a consolidated platform.
“I was trying to figure out what was going to work with Windows and Apple, and I found a few options. JumpCloud was the only one that stood out as a good product. Plus, it had a lot of other features I could use as well, so we kind of hit the ground running.”
Consolidating Management Tools and Scaling Operations
JumpCloud has been central to OOONO’s rapid growth, enabling Cunningham to quickly protect devices and streamline operations.
He uses JumpCloud features to enforce strong security, including remote device wiping for lost computers, policy enforcement for screen locks after five minutes, and managing antivirus and VPN access.
Consolidated Security & Management
“We have a VPN, we have antivirus, we have a service desk, and we install a program on all of the clients that will report back geolocation of each device and tell me whether the drives are encrypted and how much storage is available. We also have Patch Management as well.”
The onboarding process for a new computer, including all software and access, now takes approximately 20 minutes. By connecting JumpCloud to OOONO’s HR system, the company has achieved a "pretty much seamless off-boarding and onboarding now.”
From 1Password to JumpCloud Password Manager
OOONO’s developer team requires protecting sensitive company IP across a wide range of test devices. To ensure the security of these devices, Cunningham migrated from their existing tool to JumpCloud Password Manager.
He enrolled all mobile test phones and secured their passwords within the JumpCloud Password Manager, a crucial step for maintaining basic asset protection and managing secrets efficiently.
Leveraging Professional Services to Reduce Costs
Cunningham utilized JumpCloud Professional Services to optimize the platform, avoiding the high cost and time required to train external consultants on the platform.
“I’ve actually gone out and looked to hire consultants, but no one is an expert in JumpCloud, so I would have to spend a lot of time training them up on the platform, and it’s just kind of wasting money. I know with Professional Services, I can say, ‘This is the problem I’ve got,’ and then 10 minutes later it’s fixed or they’re going to look into it for me and give me a relevant answer.”
Cunningham’s ultimate ambition is to lead a small, dedicated IT team that focuses on high-level security and interesting projects, not repetitive, routine tasks, and JumpCloud is helping him realize that ambition.
